While it is important to get full meals in throughout the day, it is also crucial to be fueling with small snacks to keep energy and focus high! Often times it is difficult finding certain snacks that are healthy, nutritious AND delicious. Struggling to find snacks that contain all three characteristics can often lead in snacks that may not be the most ideal to consume prior to a game or a practice. Although it is convenient to buy snacks from the corner store, creating and making your own is not only a healthier alternative, but you can save money while also making your snacks specific to your liking!
A snack that can be eaten on the move or lightly sprinkled on any meal is granola! Homemade granola is a great snack which can be made in a large bulk, leaving you with enough to have throughout an entire week! While it may seem difficult, granola is actually both simple and fun to make! Be sure to try this recipe with friends and family, making any additions or subtractions to making this granola one that suits you!
1/4 cup almond butter
2.5 cups old fashioned oats
1/4 cup flax seed meal
1/4 cup hemp seeds
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
1 scoop FEM Power Protein Powder
In a blender or food processor, blend dates, almond butter and protein powder. In a separate bowl, combine oats, flax seed meal, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds. Mix together dry and wet ingredients together in a bowl. Be sure to really thoroughly mix together all ingredients using your hands or a big spoon. Once mixed, spread evenly on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Bake at 300 degrees F for about 20 minutes. Take granola out of oven, mix around and place back in oven for 18-20 more minutes, keeping a close eye on it so it doesn't burn. Once finished, remove from oven, drizzle more maple syrup on granola and mix around with cooking utensil. Enjoy!
